They (D)sang the mountain (A)ballads

They were (A)long on musical ability,

But (D)political incompati(A)bility,
(E)led to their down(A)fall,

This musical aggregation,

(D)Singing traditional (A)ballads,

They per(A)formed with great virtuosity,

But (D)political ani(A)mosity,
pre(E)vailed upon the (A)stage,

(D)Don't go mixin' (A)politics,

Just (A)work on harmony and 'viction,
and (D)play your banjo (A)well,
And if you (D)have political con(A)victions,
(E)keep them to your(A)self,
