Song: The Wild Wood Flower Tab

This comes from a hand written sheet out of my great-uncle's
pile of music. He used to play steel guitar semi-professionally
but now plays a dobro guitar just to pass the time. The name
Joe Allen is written in the upper left hand corner of the sheet,
but I don't know if that is the author, the singer, or somebody
from one of his bands. This is in Courier New, 10. Hope it works!

"The Wild Wood Flower"

D G
Them Texas fields were hot

                              G7 C
and that tractor never was my kind of living.

A A7
When I was sixteen and had my size,

                       D
I hit the road to freedom.

    Dm G
I'm glad I wasn't there to see my mama.

            G7 C
Because she must have cried for hours.

        G D
I still hear her saying, "Gary get your guitar

                      G
and pick the wildwood flower."

D G
Now Dallas was big and it was hard

                  G7
to find a job and so I didn't.

   A A7
It was easier to hitch a ride to Houston

                     D
and it was more like living.

         Dm
Now I've been down every road

                  G G7 C
and I've stood on every porch where they were giving.

            G D
And if they had an hours worth of time,

                      G
I'd pick the wildwood flower.

D G
It's hard to turn around

                             G7 C
and look back down the roads that I've traveled.

A A7
Cause just like a never ending ball of twine

                      D
my dreams have come unraveled.

       Dm
Now as evening waves it's scrawl

           G G7 C
across the shoulders of my life I have to find,

  G D
I couldn't tie my life together with guitar strings

                       G
and a poet's heart felt rhyme.

    Dm G
I'm glad I wasn't there to see my mama.

            G7 C
Because she must have cried for hours.

        G D
I still hear her saying, "Gary get your guitar

                      G
and pick the wildwood flower."
